Lions Gate Community Recreation Centre “Party on The Plaza” Annual BBQ + Entertainment


You’re invited to the annual Lions Gate Community Rec Centre  “Party on the Plaza” on Thursday August 6th from 5pm-7pm

You’re invited to Party on the Plaza! The organizations at Lions Gate Community Recreation Centre (Capilano Community Services, North Van Rec Commission, and North Van District Public Library), are hosting our 4th annual Party on the Plaza, on Thursday, August 6th, from 5pm – 7pm, on the outdoor plaza at Lions Gate Community Recreation Centre. This is a free community event for all ages, to come out and connect in a relaxed social setting – meeting old friends and making new ones!

Event attendees can look forward to:

🎵 Live music on the plaza stage
🌭 Delicious food: BBQ hotdog combo meal $5, snacks $2 (fundraiser for Cap Services)
💃  Dancing
😁 Fun activities for everyone (i.e., Jenga, fishing in the pool, spin the wheel, and more)
🔍Information booths for programs and services at Lions Gate Community Recreation Centre
🎟 Raffles

Lions Gate Community Recreation Centre (LGCRC) offers a range of recreation, education, arts and culture, and social programs in this new facility operated by North Vancouver Recreation & Culture, with additional community services provided by Capilano Community Services Society and North Vancouver District Public Library.

2026 Pemberton Heights Canada Day Celebration Returns July 1!

The Pemberton Heights Canada Day Celebration is back and we can’t wait to celebrate with our community on Wednesday, July 1st at Sowden Park!

Join your neighbours, friends, and family for one of Pemberton Heights’ favourite traditions! This year’s celebration includes a community parade, hot dog station, bouncy castle, live music from the JP Pipers, fun races and activities, and a brand-new Kids Market featuring young local entrepreneurs

Canada Day Parade
The festivities begin with our annual parade. Participants should gather in front of the Pemberton Heights Hall, with the parade departing at 10:45 AM and making its way down West 23rd Street to Sowden Park.

Volunteers Needed
Our Canada Day celebration is entirely volunteer-run, and we are always looking for helping hands. Whether you can assist with setup, serving food, traffic control, activities, or cleanup, we’d love to have you join the team. More details >

We’ll update you on some recent developments within the neighbourhood, hear from some of our municipal and provincial officials (Mayor Mike Little and some of our council members, plus MLA Lynne Block) and reconnect! We’re excited to see many familiar and new faces.

Earthquakes, windstorms, wildfires, flooding and other natural hazards are all part of living on the North Shore. Being prepared for an emergency can greatly reduce the impact on you, your loved ones, your community and your property. But what can you do to prepare for these events?

Join North Shore Emergency Management (NSEM) at this free neighbourhood information session to learn more about simple, practical steps you can take to stay safe. NSEM supports the North Shore municipalities and residents in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergencies and disasters.

North Shore Emergency Management (NSEM) is the emergency management department for the City of North Vancouver, District of North Vancouver, and District of West Vancouver. Established in 1978, this tri-municipal program is responsible for emergency planning and preparedness, response and recovery activities, partner engagement, volunteer management and other activities based on the Emergency and Disaster Management Act and reinforced by bylaw.

Ashdown Park Community Garden Cleanup 2024

Join your friends and neighbours on Sunday April 14th to spring clean the Ashdown Park community garden.

SUNday April 14th, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Join your friends and neighbours to spring clean our beautiful community garden at Ashdown Park (top of the Zig Zag staircase at Keith Road and Cortell Street).

We’ll be putting down mulch and wood chips on the beds and paths as well as weeding, planting and general cleanup.

  • Bring your own gloves and garden tools
  • Donated plants are welcome

Block Talk: Emergency Preparedness Info Session

Thursday, February 29th, 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm on Zoom

Will you be ready when disaster strikes?

Join DJ Lawrence, City of Vancouver Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness Program volunteer, for this informative and lively session. DJ’s vast knowledge and real-life experiences will motivate you to start planning and preparing. Bring a pen and paper to this 90 minute tip-filled session covering earthquake, flood and wildfire preparation.

2023 Canada Day Parade & Picnic

Saturday July 1st, 10:45 AM- 4:30 PM

The annual Pemberton Heights Canada Day Parade and Picnic is July 1st at Sowden Park in Pemberton Heights, and we’re planning for another memorable event! This is a hugely popular annual community celebration, with friends, family and neighbours from Pemberton Heights and beyond in attendance. Residents and non-residents alike are welcome, so please bring your family, friends and neighbours to celebrate Canada’s birthday.

Schedule of Events

10:45 AM : Parade Departs Pemberton Heights Community Hall
The parade leaves from the Pemberton Heights Community Hall heading for Sowden Park. Everyone is welcome to join, so please wear your best red and white and your running shoes, and decorate your bike, scooter, skateboard or trike.

11:00 AM: Picnic at Sowden Park
Bring your own picnic or buy your lunch at the park! Bouncy castles, dunk tank, BBQ, face painting, snow cones and some great socializing with friends and neighbours.

Please be environmentally responsible. Pick up your litter and minimize plastic waste by bringing your own refillable water bottle. There are free fresh water refill taps available at the park.

12:00 PM: Races Start
Enjoy sack races, tug-of-war, wheelbarrow races and other fun for all ages!

4:30 PM: Event Ends
Bouncy castles, dunk tank, BBQ, face painting, snow cones and some great socializing with friends and neighbours.
